We Came, We Saw, We Cybher-ed
We are very tired but we survived Cybher! Do you like our special Cybher haircuts?
First super surprise of the day was that El’s entry to the bag design competition had been successful. An actual design she made is now a real thing! And check out the cute little moustache keyring.
Thank you to Leather Satchel Co for creating this.
We were super chuffed to meet up with the amazing Cath AKA The Kraken Wakes. Jae says El can read Cath’s blog when she’s 18 as it is very sweary.
Just like last year El did some sketches. Here are a few to give you a flavour of the day:
During the first session there was mention of a Google bomb. We don’t know what this is but it sounds immense.
Lunch was nice but every thing was teeny weeny!
El was sceptical at something one of the speakers said…
Another thing that El found a bit odd…
Also Sian (the wonderful lady who runs Cybher) is so amazing that El just has to say it…

All Cybher-ed out
Our greatest hits – packed with nutritious goodness
Eljae is now a year old! It’s grown from being a baby blog and is now going to be a terrible toddler. But Jae wrote a book about toddlers so we think we can cope.
We’ve been looking back over the last year to see which posts were the most popular.
Number one by a long way is Reasons why homework should be banned – this has had thousands of hits and is on page 1 of Google for that phrase, proving once and for all that homework is evil. Unfortunately El’s teachers haven’t listened.
Number two is the main home page which makes sense really as it’s the first page you come to. PROOF THAT YOU GUYS LIKE US FOR US! đ
Next most popular is our list of Top 10 cool kid bloggers. We really like this post and we hope that we have introduced many people to new blogs.
Jae’s favourite posts of the year are the ones where El reads books in all kinds of weird places. None of this is staged, THIS IS WHAT EL IS REALLY LIKE (she feels a little frightened if she ventures out of the house without a book).
Jae also likes the post about What to say if someone at school calls you a nerd because it’s good advice.
El’s favourite posts have also been the extreme reading ones but she also really likes the things that make you go lol  post because it’s funny and whenever she watches the videos she gets a happy. đ
We have been asked to review a few things which is cool but we won’t be doing too many of those unless it is to tell you about something that is super super fun.
Most of all we like writing random stuff that nobody else does. There are millions of words on the internet but you can still be an individual. Please stay and read our blog in 2013 if you like being an individual too. And where else are you going to hear about beards and moustaches that are not beards and moustaches?
In the year to come we intend to write about such things as moustache sandwiches, more Dennis the cat and what to expect when the aliens arrive.

Top 10 Cool Kid Bloggers
Did you think that El was the only kid who blogged? Or that we were the only mother and daughter blog team? Not at all, there’s a big tribe building.
Here is our round up of some of the most fabulous child bloggers around – go and visit them and give them your love. Or your comments. To bloggers, it’s the same.
- Biba’s Photos
Fantastic photography and super cute rabbits from 10 year old Biba. We’ve met her at Cybher and she’s really nice in real life! - Super Tom
Tom is six and a half (that half is important!) who has just started blogging and is doing a fabulous job so far. Go Tom! - Never Seconds
You’ve heard of this one, right? Thank goodness for packed lunches. - My School Dinners
This 14 year old has moved to France and reckons her school dinners are even worse than those suffered by Never Seconds. Say it ain’t so! Quelle horreur! - Me and the Big World!
A very busy girl – she sings, she runs, she draws pictures of pants. Is there anything this multi-talented blogger can’t do? We don’t think so. - My Life
A child’s eye view of her new life in Cumbria. It’s not easy moving to a new place but it looks like she’s doing pretty well so far. - Major Love of Film
A super cute 6 year old girl blogging about films and fun. She’s got great glasses and her mum helps her with her blog so we love her extra more! - Childtastic Books
A 9 year old girl and her mum blogging about books. It doesn’t get much more awesome than that! - Millennium Macy
She’s 12 and finds her little brother very annoying. Hmm. I think we’re going to get along very well. - Amy’s Special Stories
This is a daily journal from a girl who has autism. It hasn’t been updated for a while so we’re hoping Amy will come back and tell us some more stories.
You can find more amazing child bloggers over at KidsBlogClub.

Cybher – our day in sketches
We are all pooped out today because we spent yesterday at Cybher, the blogging conference for women (and girls) who blog.
El was mega chuffed to meet another El – it was superstar blogger El from A Thrifty Mrs, as seen on Superscrimpers and Harry Hill’s TV Burp. WE LOVE YOU EL.
We also met the guys from the Leather Satchel Company, which was great because El takes one of their satchels to school every day – we love them too.
And we met the Disney people and told them the world needs More Muppets, so hopefully they will take heed.
At lunchtime we had a crisp shaped like a heart! And other stuff too of course.
We liked the pink lights, sweeties on the table and the cool bags.
El recorded the day in sketches, and here are some of them:
We loved Biba‘s talk about apps, and even more we loved the bunny hair clip in her hair. At least we think it was a hair clip, and not a tiny baby bunny perched very still.
Everywhere you looked, people were tweeting and iPading at the tables:
El had no iPhone so she had to make her own:
We went to some workshops and picked up some great blogging tips:
Everybody we met was really nice, it was like a big friendly community:
We found out lots of things about technology:
We learned how to re-design your blog:
A big hello to all the lovely bloggers we met at Cybher, thanks to Sian for putting it all together.

Utterly Awesome Blog: Daisy’s Amazing Random Stuff Extravanganza
We have a brand new feature! It’s our Blog of the Week award, and it can only be won by Utterly Awesome Blogs. And the first award for Best Blog goes to Daisy’s Amazing Random Stuff Extravaganza.
We like this blog because:
It’s very very funny
Some of her posts are very insightful.
Daisy is wonderful unique person.
There are some great youtube videos.
She also makes her own youtube videos which are amazing, well shot and well edited.
Plus she is only 12 and has been writing the blog since she was 10.
She is very creative.
And she is also a close friend of El’s and they are in the same class at school.
The star of the show Daisy kindly agreed to answer a few questions and let us into the secret of her blogging success:
Why are you so awesome?
I don’t think I am, I’m just a random person talking about me, I literally have no idea why anyone wants to read it.
(Note from El: Because you blog about interesting things and because you’re funny! Duh!)
Why is your blog so awesome?
I don’t think it’s that awesome, I just put effort into making it look good and making sure it’s not boring. It’s not that awesome is it?
(Note from El: Of course it’s awesome Daisy that’s why we’re saying it’s an utterly awesome blog.)
I hear you play the drums. Tell us a bit about your taste in music.
yeah, a bit, I’m not amazing or anything, but I have lessons and I do something called rock school every week (we’re doing paddle round the Pier this time (I think it’s free) so any of your readers can feel free to come and watch.
Anyway, music, I like things like Blondie or Adam and the Ants, but I started off with bands like the Monkees or the Beatles. Rolf Harris was, and always will be my USP (unique selling point) I also like people like Kimya Dawson, Carpenters, the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band and Michael Nesmith (he was the bobble hat wearing one from the Monkees)
Can you give us some fashion tips?
no, probably not.
I’d just say try not to wear too much make up and wear what you feel comfortable in, (making sure you don’t wear something comfy but makes you think that everyone is staring at you) It doesn’t have to be in fashion right this moment but should have looked okay at some point, I often wear a waistcoat over a t-shirt. oh, and don’t take fashion tips from the 80’s
(Note from El: Daisy actully has a great style wearing waistcoats and fake glasses and decorating a lot of her clothes. Have you even seen her dungarees?!)
Why did you get a blog?
well, mainly because whenever I went on the internet I didn’t have anything interesting to do (I’ve never been good at playing games like those on mini clip or anything like that.)
Who is better Lee Mack or Rolf Harris?
YOU CAN’T ASK ME THAT QUESTION!
why couldn’t you ask something like who’s better Hitler or Rolf Harris? Then of course I would have said Hitler! (that was a joke by the way)
(Note from El: Daisy has always loved Rolf Harris and has even created a religion based on him and is a fan of Not Going Out starring Lee Mack. I asked that question mostly to annoy her.)
And Daisy, we have made a special blog badge for Utterly Awesome Blogs which you can pick up by cutting & pasting this code on to your blog:
<a href=”http://www.eljae.com/” target=”_blank”><img src=”http://i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj522/joannemallon1/el-and-jae-awesome-blog-badge.jpg” alt=”Eljae” border=”0″ /></a>
Which will give you something looking like this:
You are officially an Utterly Awesome Blog
El & Jae
(Inspecting awesomeness so that you don’t have to)
Vote El! (And also Jae!)
Remember how exciting it was that Jae was nominated for a blogging award? Well, now it gets even better as THIS ACTUAL BLOG has been nominated for an award too. So El is probably the youngest blog awards nominee at age 12, and Jae could also be the oldest at age 5 billion.
Eljae.com has been nominated in the Most Innovative Blog category at the MAD Blog Awards. El was unsure of what Innovative actually means, until Jae explained that it essentially means you are Queen of the Nerds.
So how are we innovative? We don’t do many videos or fancy stuff. This is what we do that’s new
- This blog is glasses-powered, which is useful when the electricity runs out
- It’s written by a parent and child. In the olden days parents used to blog about their children, until the kids started objecting to the adults taking pictures of their best poos and posting them online. We think that more parents and children should write blogs together, it’s fun.
- When we get excited we grow moustaches
- When two of you write a blog you can think of more ideas, plus one of you is free to play Fruit Ninja whilst the other one writes a post
- Lots of our ideas are a bit crazy and LIKE NOTHING YOU HAVE EVER SEEN BEFORE OR EVER WILL AGAIN.
- We have a category for Random Wisdoms. In the future all blogs will have this.
- We explained what to do if someone calls you a nerd, what it means when kids use text speak and why homework should be banned.
So please pop over here to the nominations page and add www.Eljae.com to the Most Innovative Blog category.
And here is a message from our turtle:
