Our greatest hits – packed with nutritious goodness

Eljae is now a year old! It’s grown from being a baby blog and is now going to be a terrible toddler. But Jae wrote a book about toddlers so we think we can cope.

We’ve been looking back over the last year to see which posts were the most popular.reading-whilst-walking

Number one by a long way is Reasons why homework should be banned – this has had thousands of hits and is on page 1 of Google for that phrase, proving once and for all that homework is evil. Unfortunately El’s teachers haven’t listened.

Number two is the main home page which makes sense really as it’s the first page you come to. PROOF THAT YOU GUYS LIKE US FOR US! 😀

Next most popular is our list of Top 10 cool kid bloggers. We really like this post and we hope that we have introduced many people to new blogs.

Jae’s favourite posts of the year are the ones where El reads books in all kinds of weird places. None of this is staged, THIS IS WHAT EL IS REALLY LIKE (she feels a little frightened if she ventures out of the house without a book).

Jae also likes the post about What to say if someone at school calls you a nerd because it’s good advice.

El’s favourite posts have also been the extreme reading ones but she also really likes the things that make you go lol  post because it’s funny and whenever she watches the videos she gets a happy. 🙂

We have been asked to review a few things which is cool but we won’t be doing too many of those unless it is to tell you about something that is super super fun.

Most of all we like writing random stuff that nobody else does. There are millions of words on the internet but you can still be an individual. Please stay and read our blog in 2013 if you like being an individual too. And where else are you going to hear about beards and moustaches that are not beards and moustaches?

El dreams up new blog posts

El dreams up new blog posts

In the year to come we intend to write about such things as moustache sandwiches, more Dennis the cat and what to expect when the aliens arrive.

A day of dogs and zombies

What’s got six legs, lots of hair and blogs?

It’s El and Phileas Dogg!

A blogger meet up at Brighton Pavilion!

Yesterday we were honoured with a visit from Attlee AKA top dog blogger Phileas Dogg and his human companion Jane. They had come to check out how dog-friendly Brighton is. Alas not so much, as it turns out you can’t take dogs on the pier.

Weirdly, yesterday was also the day of the Zombie Beach Walk, and so whilst they didn’t allow dogs on the pier, they did allow zombies. There were THOUSANDS of them. We’d like to imagine what people would have thought if they hadn’t known what was going on.

OH GOD THE APOCALYPSE HAS COME!!!

And Attlee made friends with a zombie dog. Well as friendly as you can be with a zombie who probably wants to eat your brains. Actually it seems Attlee was the scarier hound.

So thank you to Attlee and Jane and all the zombies for visiting Brighton. It was hair-raising to say the least!

Top 10 Cool Kid Bloggers

She’s so SEO

Did you think that El was the only kid who blogged? Or that we were the only mother and daughter blog team? Not at all, there’s a big tribe building.

Here is our round up of some of the most fabulous child bloggers around – go and visit them and give them your love. Or your comments. To bloggers, it’s the same.

  1. Biba’s Photos
Fantastic photography and super cute rabbits from 10 year old Biba. We’ve met her at Cybher and she’s really nice in real life!
  2. Super Tom
Tom is six and a half (that half is important!) who has just started blogging and is doing a fabulous job so far. Go Tom!
  3. Never Seconds
You’ve heard of this one, right? Thank goodness for packed lunches.
  4. My School Dinners
This 14 year old has moved to France and reckons her school dinners are even worse than those suffered by Never Seconds. Say it ain’t so! Quelle horreur!
  5. Me and the Big World!
A very busy girl – she sings, she runs, she draws pictures of pants. Is there anything this multi-talented blogger can’t do? We don’t think so.
  6. My Life
A child’s eye view of her new life in Cumbria. It’s not easy moving to a new place but it looks like she’s doing pretty well so far.
  7. Major Love of Film
A super cute 6 year old girl blogging about films and fun. She’s got great glasses and her mum helps her with her blog so we love her extra more!
  8. Childtastic Books
A 9 year old girl and her mum blogging about books. It doesn’t get much more awesome than that!
  9. Millennium Macy
She’s 12 and finds her little brother very annoying. Hmm. I think we’re going to get along very well.
  10. Amy’s Special Stories
This is a daily journal from a girl who has autism. It hasn’t been updated for a while so we’re hoping Amy will come back and tell us some more stories.

Utterly Awesome Blog: Actually Mummy

It’s time for another Utterly Awesome Blog!

This is one we discovered when its author left comments here – she’s our number one commenter. And it shows how you should leave comments on blogs because it gives people a chance to see how awesome your blog is. Plus, comments are cool.

So please say hello to the Utterly Awesome Actually Mummy.

This blog contains the thoughts of a seven year old schoolgirl, as channelled by her mum. OK, so her mum is writing it but she does it in a really cool way. Does this little girl even know she’s got a blog?

She has a little brother whom they call the Bug – we love the Bug too! Maybe he will get his own blog.

There is a lot of fun on Actually Mummy and we loved their muffin recipe video.

This blog is awesome because:

It’s really funny and interesting. It’s useful and well written and did I mention funny?

Wot So Funee?

Because of this blog we now refer to bananas as bnerners, which is much better

She uses the word loquacious a lot, which we like.

We met AM at Cybher just briefly but we could tell she was nice and a good person.

So congratulations Actually Mummy, we will send you your badge and you can join the ranks of the Utterly Awesome

Utterly Awesome Blog: A Thrifty Mrs

Awesomely thrifty Mrs

Here is this week’s Utterly Awesome Blog, and it’s a new favourite of El’s. And it’s written by another El!

It’s superscrimpingly awesome.

It’s A Thrifty Mrs

It’s thrifty, but generous with the awesome sauce.

We like this post about how to make your own lemon lip scrub and we are planning to have a go at making some this weekend.

The posts are all really well written and you will like them even if you’re not going to try the tips. The photos are great too.

El thoroughly enjoys reading the money saving tips and she has no need to be thrify as she is only 12 and thrifty-ness is Jae’s job. (Jae is not so sure about this).

El, meet El

We met El, the real life Thrifty Mrs at Cybher and she was really nice even though she could’ve been cross not to be the only blogging El. She has been on Superscrimpers AND Harry Hill’s TV Burp. (We almost went to a different talk. Phew!)

She seems like a really nice person so go check out her blog!

I’m serious. Read it. NOWWWWWW!!!!!!!!! GIVE HER YOUR LOVE!!!!! SHE’S AWESOME!

We have got a special badge for you A Thrifty Mrs! We will email you the code (people have been having trouble with the code)

Utterly Awesome Blog: Phileas Dogg

Utterly Awesome Dog Blog!

Here is this week’s Utterly Awesome Blog – and it isn’t even written by a human!

Before there was Pudsey on Britain’s Got Talent, an even more talented dog has been at work. Phileas Dogg is a travel blog written by Attlee the dog.

We like this blog because:

It’s a dog! Giving his opinion! Not like boring human travel which is all blah blah service station blah blah country cottage etc. As well as Attlee there’s a French correspondent who tells you about his life. We are not entirely sure how his paws manage to type on the keyboard, but if Pudsey can walk backwards like a man then dogs can do anything.

It’s really really funny. Even if you don’t like dogs and you’re not going anywhere, you will like it.

We have met Attlee! He came to our house on New Year’s Day and was very cute. Still waiting for his report from Brighton though. Attlee is a very sweet dog.

He uses great words like Amaze-bones and is always looking for SAUSAGES.

Attlee agreed to answer some questions so we could find out the secret of his awesomeness:

Why are you so awesome?

I am so awesome because I am a dog who can write and there aren’t many hounds who can do that: not even Pudsey, I’ve heard.

Why is your blog so awesome?

My blog is so awesome because I go to pubs, hotels, restaurants and cafes all over Britain so I can tell other dogs what they’re like. Humans are interested in stuff like is the chef on television and do they have a good wine list. But dogs are interested in stuff like do they serve SAUSAGES, will the staff recognise me as the superior life form I am and are there any old-fashioned lampposts for me to add my pee to centuries of other dog pee on?

Where is your favourite place?

Even though I have travelled the country, my favourite place is my local park, two minutes walk from my house. I am top dog in the pack there, even though some of the other dogs are three times the size of me. They respect me because I have a job and an important one at that.

Where would you like to go that you haven’t been to yet?

The Ritz because when I have been to The Ritz I will know I have truly arrived.

Why did you start a blog?

I started a travel blog because when we are travelling Dodger the cat I have to share my home with is left behind. Dodger is too clever by half so having a break from him  giving me the evils all the time is very relaxing.

If you could sell Jane for a SAUSAGE, would you?

For a whole string of sausages, I’d consider it. Make me an offer

(Jane is Attlee’s owner. If I was her, I’d be worried)

Congratulations Attlee, you are now in the select club of Eljae’s Utterly Awesome Blogs. And we will give you five sausages and a blow up lamp post for Jane, she is pretty awesome too.

Here is the code you need to create your special badge:

Sorry it’s not a sausage

Utterly Awesome Blog: Daisy’s Amazing Random Stuff Extravanganza

What an utterly amazing blog!

We have a brand new feature! It’s our Blog of the Week award, and it can only be won by Utterly Awesome Blogs. And the first award for Best Blog goes to Daisy’s Amazing Random Stuff Extravaganza.

We like this blog because:
It’s very very funny
Some of her posts are very insightful.
Daisy is wonderful unique person.
There are some great youtube videos.
She also makes her own youtube videos which are amazing, well shot and well edited.
Plus she is only 12 and has been writing the blog since she was 10.
She is very creative.
And she is also a close friend of El’s and they are in the same class at school.

The star of the show Daisy kindly agreed to answer a few questions and let us into the secret of her blogging success:

Why are you so awesome?

I don’t think I am, I’m just a random person talking about me, I literally have no idea why anyone wants to read it.

(Note from El: Because you blog about interesting things and because you’re funny! Duh!)

Why is your blog so awesome?

I don’t think it’s that awesome, I just put effort into making it look good and making sure it’s not boring. It’s not that awesome is it?

(Note from El: Of course it’s awesome Daisy that’s why we’re saying it’s an utterly awesome blog.)

I hear you play the drums. Tell us a bit about your taste in music.

yeah, a bit, I’m not amazing or anything, but I have lessons and I do something called rock school every week (we’re doing paddle round the Pier this time (I think it’s free) so any of your readers can feel free to come and watch.

Anyway, music, I like things like Blondie or Adam and the Ants, but I started off with bands like the Monkees or the Beatles. Rolf Harris was, and always will be my USP (unique selling point) I also like people like Kimya Dawson, Carpenters, the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band and Michael Nesmith (he was the bobble hat wearing one from the Monkees)

Can you give us some fashion tips?

no, probably not.

I’d just say try not to wear too much make up and wear what you feel comfortable in, (making sure you don’t wear something comfy but makes you think that everyone is staring at you) It doesn’t have to be in fashion right this moment but should have looked okay at some point, I often wear a waistcoat over a t-shirt. oh, and don’t take fashion tips from the 80’s

(Note from El: Daisy actully has a great style wearing waistcoats and fake glasses and decorating a lot of her clothes. Have you even seen her dungarees?!)

Why did you get a blog?

well, mainly because whenever I went on the internet I didn’t have anything interesting to do (I’ve never been good at playing games like those on mini clip or anything like that.)

Who is better Lee Mack or Rolf Harris?

YOU CAN’T ASK ME THAT QUESTION!
why couldn’t you ask something like who’s better Hitler or Rolf Harris? Then of course I would have said Hitler! (that was a joke by the way)

(Note from El: Daisy has always loved Rolf Harris and has even created a religion based on him and is a fan of Not Going Out starring Lee Mack. I asked that question mostly to annoy her.)

And Daisy, we have made a special blog badge for Utterly Awesome Blogs which you can pick up by cutting & pasting this code on to your blog:

<a href=”http://www.eljae.com/” target=”_blank”><img src=”http://i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj522/joannemallon1/el-and-jae-awesome-blog-badge.jpg” alt=”Eljae” border=”0″ /></a>

Which will give you something looking like this:
